Brenda Muir, the business manager and board secretary for Greene County Schools, is retiring after 31 years of service.
Muir, a 1977 graduate of YJB High School, started her career at East Greene in 1992, spending 14 years with the district before working for Jefferson-Scranton until the schools combined in 2014. Through her years, Muir worked for six different superintendents, getting to know how to work with many personalities and philosophies.
A highlight of Muir’s career, according to her, was “all of the changes throughout the years.” From the reorganization of the districts, to the construction of the new high school, Muir learned to be flexible in an ever-changing position.
When asked what Muir will miss, her answer was simple. “The people, being involved in the school, the staff and students,” she commented.
Muir says it was an honor and privilege to work for all three districts, thanking everyone she worked with, including the board members.
Muir has six grandchildren who are students at Greene County, with two more set to attend once old enough, and while she won’t get to see them through her job, retirement will allow more time to be spent with all her family.
Other retirement plans include, “being more relaxed, reading more books and putting more miles on a bike.”
